Your New Role

As the Design Manager based in Charlotte, North Carolina, you will lead the design phase of large-scale, mission-critical data center construction projects from early concept through final construction documents. You will serve as the central point of coordination across multiple design disciplines, ensuring alignment with client expectations, budget requirements, technical standards, and construction schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of design coordination from schematic design through Issued for Construction packages

  • Oversee architectural, structural, civil, MEP, fire protection, and telecommunications design disciplines

  • Lead coordination meetings with general contractors, engineers, consultants, vendors, and commissioning teams

  • Conduct constructability reviews and support energy efficiency and system performance objectives

  • Coordinate early release packages to support permitting and phased construction schedules

  • Ensure compliance with Tier III and Tier IV standards, redundancy requirements, and scalability goals

  • Partner with preconstruction and procurement teams to align design decisions with budget and performance targets

  • Utilize Revit, BIM 360, Bluebeam Studio, and related platforms to manage collaboration and documentation

  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date design documentation throughout the project lifecycle

  • Proactively identify design conflicts or risks and implement solutions to protect schedule and project outcomes

  • Large-scale data center project experience required

  • 7+ years of design management experience, including leading at least one mission-critical or data center project

  • Strong knowledge of UPS systems, switchgear, CRAC units, chillers, generators, and structured cabling

  • Familiarity with Tier III and Tier IV standards and Uptime Institute guidelines

  • Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, BIM 360, and related construction software

  • Experience coordinating schedules, phased permitting, and budget considerations

  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with project stakeholders

  • Willingness to travel as needed

Preferred Certifications (not required)

  • PE, LEED AP, PMP, DBIA, or similar industry certifications

Preferred Education (not required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
