Job Summary:
The Telecommunications Technician is responsible for maintaining company networks and telephony systems to meet company needs. The Telecommunications Technician requires an in-depth knowledge and understanding of telecommunications, network protocols, hardware, and software to fulfill position requirements.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist Network team with configuration and deployment of company WANs, LANs, Voice, and wireless networks, including routers, firewalls, switches, access points, telephony systems and other telecom equipment.
  • Monitor and diagnoses problems with network equipment and performs equipment repair or upgrades when appropriate.
  • Source and procure internet and voice services for new and existing locations as needed.
  • Perform network and telephone system upgrades to meet company needs.
  • Liaison with providers to resolve outages and issues with internet and telephony services in a timely manner.
  • Maintain documentation related to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Maintain inventory and perform audits on ISP/telecom accounts to ensure accuracy to prevent loss.
  • Assist with administering and maintaining various telephone systems. Manages the creation of new hire telephone and voicemail extensions, routing extensions to appropriate locations and updating information.
  • Triage and troubleshoot general computer & peripheral related issues as needed via telephone, email, remote and/or onsite support.
  • Possess familiarity with main national cellular carriers and products to include iOS & Android. Activate new services, troubleshoot, and maintain services and devices as needed.
  • Responsible for organizing and completing the technical day-to-day operations assigned through work orders and servicing trouble calls.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Technology or closely related field preferred plus 3+ years equivalent work experience required.
  • Up to 40% travel required.
  • Certifications: CompTIA+, CCNA, CWNA a plus
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and willing to obtain a public trust.
  • Knowledge of the theories and techniques involved in the implementation and maintenance of internet, networks, and telephony: LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, MPLS, DIA, DSL, Cable, VoIP, SIP, POTs.
  • Must be familiar with twisted pair, fiber, and coax installation methods and color-coding conventions.
  • The ability to use and operate basic cable tester, crimp and other tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and operation of telecommunications is required.
  • Working knowledge of computers, hardware, and software in a Microsoft environment.
  • Very strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem solving, strong technical and analytical abilities are essential.
  • Demonstrated talent for interacting with a wide variety of people; ability to effectively organize and coordinate multiple priorities; ability to learn and develop new skills.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritizing and accurately completing them on time in a potentially stressful environment is required.
  • The ability to demonstrate initiative and work and solve technical problems independently and as part of a team is required.
  • After-hours support on a monthly rotational schedule is required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally to units on a frequent basis.
    Ability to sit at a desk in front of a computer for the entire workday.
  • Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
  • Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by customers and co-workers in English.
  • Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees.
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 15 lbs. occasionally, up to 30 lbs. seldom.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch. Use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.
