Overview

A leading technology company is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer on a contract basis to support a rapidly scaling industrial mobile robotics program within its Factory Engineering & Automation organization. This role is critical to bringing an existing mobile robot platform in-house , migrating legacy designs into the company’s internal CAD environment, and producing a single, unified engineering package that can be distributed to machine builders and fabricators worldwide.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically sharp, and able to be productive immediately in a fast-paced, high-priority environment. Strong communication skills are essential, as this role interfaces closely with internal engineering teams and external vendors.

Key Responsibilities

• Migrate and rebuild existing mechanical designs into the company’s internal CAD system ( SolidWorks or CATIA ), ensuring full design integrity and compliance with internal engineering standards
• Create, format, and maintain 2D engineering drawings on company letterhead for global distribution
• Develop and consolidate a single, scalable engineering package that can be replicated across multiple manufacturing programs
• Design and refine components of a small industrial mobile robot platform , including structural, mechanical, and electromechanical assemblies
• Collaborate with factory engineering and automation teams to ensure designs align with production line requirements and operational goals
• Interface with external vendors and fabricators to ensure engineering packages are accurate, complete, and manufacturable
• Support design reviews, redlines, revision control, and documentation to maintain a clean and traceable engineering record
• Identify and resolve design gaps or inconsistencies discovered during the in-housing and documentation process

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience , with the ability to be immediately productive in a fast-paced environment
• 3+ years of proficiency in SolidWorks or CATIA , including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation
• 3+ years of experience with fabrication processes , steel manufacturing, or complex mechanical assemblies
• 3+ years of experience designing or supporting electromechanical systems and assemblies
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards for manufacturing and fabrication
• Proven experience creating and managing complete engineering packages for distribution to multiple external vendors or fabricators
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and external partners
