Location: Mayfield Heights, OH (In-office/Hybrid) Firm Type: Small Public Accounting Firm

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Tax Manager to join our growing firm in Mayfield Heights. In this role, you won't just be a number; you will be a key advisor to our diverse client base, ranging from high-net-worth individuals to local small businesses.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys the technical challenge of complex tax code but also values the personal relationships that come with working in a boutique firm environment. You will lead the tax department’s workflow, mentor junior staff, and provide high-level tax planning strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Tax Compliance & Review: Oversee the preparation and perform final reviews of federal and state income tax returns for individuals, S-Corps, Partnerships, and Trusts.
• Strategic Tax Planning: Develop and implement proactive tax-saving strategies for clients, staying ahead of legislative changes.
• Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and conducting annual tax planning meetings.
• Team Leadership: Mentor and train staff accountants, providing constructive feedback and managing their professional development.
• IRS Representation: Handle tax audits and correspond with federal and state agencies regarding notices and compliance issues.
• Operational Excellence: Improve firm workflows and ensure all deadlines (including extensions) are met with precision.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s in Taxation is a plus.
• Certification: Active CPA license is required.
• Experience: 5–8 years of experience in public accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with tax software (e.g., UltraTax, CCH Axcess, or Lacerte) and QuickBooks.
• Local Expertise: Familiarity with Ohio RITA and CCA municipal tax filings is highly preferred.
• Communication: Ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients in a clear, jargon-free manner.
