Transfusion Medicine Specialist / Laboratory Lead

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist- Blood bank.

Job Location: Evansville IN 47714.

Pay Rate: $51.30/hr. to $57/hr. on W2.

Duration: 6+ months with possible extension or conversation to Perm according to clients need

Shift: Day/Central, Start time is flexible, Monday - Friday, No holidays or weekends

ASCP Certification is required.

40 hours a week.

Position Summary

The Transfusion Medicine Specialist is responsible for overseeing and optimizing transfusion medicine processes within hospital-based laboratories. This role focuses on driving standardization, ensuring regulatory compliance, and implementing best practices across the system. The position also plays a key role in developing training and competency programs, supporting laboratory operations, and leading cross-functional initiatives to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage transfusion medicine projects across hospital laboratory settings
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance teams to implement quality tools and ensure continuous readiness for regulatory inspections
• Oversee FDA reportable and ensure accurate and timely submissions
• Drive standardization initiatives across transfusion medicine practices, processes, and systems
• Provide leadership and oversight to collaborative teams, including internal experts and hospital-based stakeholders
• Develop and implement productivity standards, quality metrics, and operational best practices in transfusion medicine
• Evaluate and recommend laboratory instrumentation and reagent systems to support efficiency and standardization
• Partner with laboratory leadership to assess return on investment (ROI), define service requirements, and support implementation of new technologies
• Develop, maintain, and execute standardized Blood Bank SOPs, tools, and performance metrics
• Participate in hospital committees and subcommittees as required

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related field required
• ASCP certification required

Experience:

• 3–6 years of full-time laboratory experience in a core laboratory setting
• Experience in transfusion medicine or blood bank operations preferred
• Advanced education may be considered in lieu of some experience

Knowledge & Skills:

• Strong knowledge of transfusion medicine principles, regulatory requirements, and laboratory operations
• Experience with quality assurance processes and inspection readiness
• Ability to lead projects and drive cross-functional collaboration
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to perform physical activities including walking, sitting, bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and squatting
• Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and carry moderately light loads up to 50 feet
• Color vision required for accurate laboratory work
• Work is performed in a clinical laboratory environment with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, biological specimens, and unpleasant odors.
